We recognise that we are part of a wider community, and value our links with those that live and work around us. As well as venturing out and about in Ely, we also like to invite members of the community to visit us. Whilst these might be speakers on topics educational, or parent helpers to assist with reading, on Wednesday lunchtimes our Social Learning Leader sets up a special ‘High Table’ in the Hall, at which pupils chosen for their exceptional behaviour during the week dine with Headteacher James Hickish and an honoured guest from the community, who will like as not be gently quizzed about such things as what he/she does for a living, exciting places which he/she has visited, and his/her own school experiences, hobbies and interests, whilst enjoying a tasty roast dinner cooked on the premises.
On leaving us to progress to secondary school, most of our pupils transfer to Ely College, others choosing to go to either Soham Village College or Witchford Village College, and a few to St Bede's. Again, there are Open Evenings and transition events to ensure that pupils are fully prepared for the move onwards and upwards. It is always a pleasure to hear at a later date how former St Mary's pupils are developing, and to read of their successes in the local press.
