A school uniform plays a key role in promoting togetherness, corporate identity and equality, distinguishes pupils as ambassadors for the school, and serves a safeguarding purpose when pupils are out and about in the community with their teachers on school trips.
Ely St Mary’s school uniform, which all pupils are encouraged to wear, is smart but also comfortable and practical, and consists of the following:
For Boys For Girls
Green Polo Shirt Green Polo Shirt
Navy Sweatshirt Navy Sweatshirt or Navy Sweatcardi
Dark Grey Trousers Dark Grey Skirt or Trousers
Blue-and-white-checked gingham dress (Optional for Summer)
Black/grey/navy socks Grey/navy tights or grey/navy/white socks
Sensible black school shoes Sensible black/navy school shoes/closed-toe black/navy sandals in Summer
(Black trainers are permissible)
Navy fleeces and navy reversible, waterproof coats are optional extras for playtimes.
Please note that the only jewellery which is permitted is a single pair of close-fitting earrings, which must be removed for Physical Education (PE) and Games, and which are worn at pupils' own risk.
For PE, tee shirts in House colours (see below) and black shorts should be worn. For outdoor Games a change of footwear is required as well as an additional layer of warmer clothing, such as a tracksuit.
Our 4 ‘Houses’ are named after local Fens:
On joining St Mary’s each pupil is assigned to a House. On Sports Day, for example, pupils throughout the school participate as members of their House Teams, earning points for their respective Houses.
It is recommended that each child has a bookbag in which to keep his/her Home/School Partnership Book, reading book and homework; this should be brought to school each day. Also, a PE bag in which to keep his/her PE/Games kit.
