Sport

Amongst our staff we have a number of keen sportsmen and women, and there are plenty of opportunities for pupils to try their hand at a range of sporting activities such as Tag Rugby, Rounders, Netball, Football, Athletics, Benchball and Gymnastics, to name but a few.  Swimming lessons take place at the local, newly-built pool at The Hive Leisure Centre, Ely.

All pupils are encouraged to participate in sport.  As well as being fun, this contributes to the adoption of a healthy life-style, developing awareness of the benefits and importance of regular exercise in terms of physical and mental well-being.

St Mary's is affiliated to the Witchford Schools' Sports Partnership which runs a number of inter-school sports competitions during the course of the academic year.  Our teams, coached by PE Leaders, enjoy their competitive matches against pupils from other local schools, as well as the fresh air and exercise, and our before-and-after-school sports clubs provide further opportunities for honing sports skills.

The Olympic Legacy funding (Sports Premium) is also enabling greater participation in competitive sport.  Further information about the uses to which the grant is being put is to be found on the Key Information/Sports Premium page of this website.
