Year 4

As we embark on a new academic year like no other, we are keen to ensure all pupils have access to weekly sequences of lessons from home, to learn remotely should they need to. The pdf document below sets out our Blended Learning Offer (September 2020).This document outlines the planned approach and provision for our pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, in the event of:

  1. individual pupils self-isolating; or
  2. a year-group bubble self-isolating at home (for approximately 2 weeks); or
  3. whole-school closure (short term); or
  4. whole-school closure as a result of local/national lockdown

Should these situations occur, please find below documents setting out Year 5's sequence of lessons and activities in each of English and Maths for the relevant week.  As each class is rotating, for resourcing purposes, when foundation subject blocks (history, geography, art etc) are taught, please Dojo your class teacher in the event of an absence, and he/she will provide the wider curriculum lessons and project for that week – this may be in the form of a PDF, or a link to relevant lessons on Oak National Academy. In the event of a whole school closure/ partial closure, foundation subject resources will also be saved below.

We would ask that those pupils who are isolating, but feel well enough, engage each day with the lesson activities provided, both to progress their learning, and to assist their return to class as, when they return, they will have tried the lessons that they would usually have missed out on if absent.

We have tried to keep the formatting of the sequences as user-friendly as possible, recognising that these resources are usually delivered by qualified staff, and complemented with a range of face-to-face teaching techniques and practical resources.

In addition, all pupils continue to have access to the online resources of Spelling Shed, Tackling Tables and TT Rock Stars, and Accelerated Reader.

Finally, class teachers continue to be contactable via the office or Class Dojo during working hours as well. However, please be aware that between 9am-3:30pm, much of this time will be teaching and away from their emails/ Dojo, so please do telephone the school if urgent.

4TH JANUARY 2021 UPDATE 9PM: St Mary's will be open tomorrow (Tuesday 5th January) for the following children:

  • Y3/4/5/6 Children of critical workers and vulnerable pupils only.
This is in response to the government announcement made this evening at 8pm.

For all other pupils learning remotely, please ensure families are linked up to Class Dojo. Learning resources, which will be updated weekly, can be found below (scroll right to the bottom) and these will be supported by daily communication from year group teams (live class time and pre-recorded inputs) - please check Class Dojo daily for such messages, zoom and video links.

In line with government guidance remote education should be equivalent in length to the core teaching pupils would receive in school, and for KS2 the minimum is 4 hours per day. At St Mary's this includes:
  • English lesson: 1 hour
  • Maths lesson: 1 hour
  • Foundation lesson (such as Art, Geography etc): 1 hour
  • 'Form Time' (a daily, live class/year group meeting): 30 minutes
  • Daily practice of key skills (Spelling Shed, Times Tables Rock Stars, Reading): 30 minutes
  • Daily exercise & PE (totalling 2 hours per week)
All resources can be found on this website and Class Dojo. We ask all pupils to upload work to Class Dojo regularly for their class teacher to view and provide feedback on their learning.

8TH MARCH 2021 UPDATE: We look forward to welcoming all pupils back to school on Monday 8th March.
In the event that individual or groups of pupils are required to self isolate, home learning can continue to be found below. Please click on the dated links for the most recent Maths & English resources. Please contact class teachers for foundation subject lessons as required.
